April was an amazing month for all of us at the Central New York Chapter of the Autism Society of America (CNY ASA) and the success of our two events is directly linked to the wonderful support provided by the local community.
More than 220 people attended the April 5th Fundraising Gala, "Unlocking the Mystery", held at the Renaissance Syracuse. We enjoyed wonderful food and beverages, music by Smokin' the Band and exciting raffle and auction prizes generously donated from many area businesses. The event focused on celebrating the abilities of our children, their amazing talents and the joy that they bring to us all, with Brian McLane, Executive Director of the Burton Blatt Institute, addressing the topic from his personal experience.
The "one piece at a time" Autism Awareness Walk took place Sunday morning, April 27th at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo with more than 650 walking to show their support and dedication. FEAT of CNY, the Twin Magicians, SU Art Education, No Strings Attached Toys and our Bird Greeter captured the attention and excitement of both young and old. Margaret L. Williams Developmental Evaluation Center, Golisano Children's Hospital at University Hospital and Kohl's Cares for Kids, along with Exceptional Family Resources and Enable, continued to support our community. What an inspiring way to close out Autism Awareness Month!
